Pakistan’s popular television news channel, Geo, resumed broadcasting on 21 January, after two months off air.
Independent news networks had been prevented from broadcasting after President Musharraf declared a state of emergency last November, but most were on air again by the end of the year after signing a controversial “code of conduct”. It is not clear whether Geo has now signed, but it has temporarily agreed to suspend broadcasting two programmes known to be particularly unpopular with President Musharraf.
