Five young British men who were convicted after being found in possession of jihadist literature have won their appeal against the decision.
Irfan Raja, Awaab Iqbal, Aitzaz Zafar, Usman Malik and Akbar Butt were convicted at an Old Bailey court last year. But today, the Lord Chief Justice ruled that their conviction had been based on a “maverick” interpretation of anti-terror laws, and that there had been no evidence that the group had been planning to commit an act of terrorism.
