Two community radio presenters and indigenous activists were shot and killed in southern Oaxaca on Monday.
Felicitas Martínez Sánchez and Teresa Bautista Merino were returning from publicising their radio station, La Voz que Rompe el Silencio (The Voice that breaks the Silence), when unidentified gunmen opened fire on their vehicle. According to local news reports, three others in the vehicle were injured, including a three-year-old child. The radio station, based in the autonomous municipality of San Juan Copala, started broadcasting in Spanish and Triqui on 19 January.
