Members of the Sison family, all reporters for Regional Bulletin, were attacked by gunmen on motorcycle on 1 July in Sariaya, about 60 miles (97 kilometres) south east of Manila. Robert ‘Bert’ Sison, who reported crimes and stories critical of local officials, was shot dead. His daughter Liwayway, 30 was wounded, while his other daughter Amirah, 24, escaped unharmed by pretending to be dead.
