Honduras civil liberties decree lifted

The decree suspending civil liberties in Honduras has been formally repealed. The decree had suspended several civil liberties as well as preventing radio stations loyal to Zelaya from broadcasting. Robert Michetti the current leader of Honduras stated that the decree is no longer needed because “there is peace” in the country.

Iran: former editor freed from prison

Journalist Saeed Hajjarian was freed from Evin prison in Tehran on 30 September after paying bail. Hajjarian was arrested at his home on the night of 15 June. Hajjarian is the former editor of the now-closed Sobh-e-Emrouz newspaper, which backed President Khatami’s programme of reforms following his 1997 election victory.
