The Advertising Standards Agency has ordered a hair product commercial to be withdrawn as it risks causing ‘serious offence’ to Christians.
The advert, for ghd IV hairstyling equipment, features erotic images of women alongside text extracted from the Lord’s Prayer reading ‘ghd IV: Thy Will Be Done’. The ‘t’ in ‘Thy’ has also been designed to resemble a cross. Jemella, the agency responsible for the advert has defended it, saying it had long used the slogan ‘a religion for hair’, and that it was unlikely to cause widespread offence, but the ASA said they had gone too far.
