Fifty-one Indian journalists who were travelling to cover chief minister of Andhra Pradesh YS Rajasekhara Reddy visit to the Vaddera community were instead taken to the Tiruchanoor police station, in Tirupati, and kept there for three hours on Friday.

Police said the journalists were taken into precautionary custody.

However, a journalists’ union leader alleged that police aim was to muffle their voice.
The incident followed the manhandling of photographers who were protesting against the recent arrests of Andhra Jyoti editor and two journalists. Over 100 journalists responded by staging a
Demomstration in front of the Tiruchanoor police station.
