Colombia’s Fundación Karisma, the Index on Censorship Freedom of Expression Award winner for digital activism 2019, is a civil society organisation devoted to encouraging the use of digital technology and enhancing freedom of expression on the internet. The organisation offers a rare space to discuss many issues at the intersection of human rights and technology in the country.

An award-winning broadcast journalist at private media house Equinoxe TV and Radio, Mefo was arrested in November 2018 after she published reports that the military was behind the death of an American missionary in the country. It is an initiative that uses humour to draw attention to a serious problem: the growing online harassment of women in Colombia and its chilling effect. The organisation offers a rare space to discuss many issues at the intersection of human rights and technology in the country and then tackles them through a mix of research, advocacy and digital tools.
