On 1 August, Hamas screened its first feature length film. It documents the life of Imad Aqel, a Palestinian militant accused by the Israelis of killing 13 soldiers and settlers. Hamas already owns a satellite television channel, a radio station and several newspapers. The director of the film has said he hopes to show the film at Cannes Film Festival.

Israeli police have arrested journalist Amira Hass upon her return from the Gaza Strip over being in violation of a military ban on Israeli citizens visiting the Palestinian Territories. Read more here

Early Wednesday morning, blogger and activist Philip Rizk, who was detained after he participated in public demonstrations in support of Gaza last Friday, was released and driven home without having been charged.
