Vogue cover girl has won a precedent-setting court battle to order Google to unmask an anonymous blogger who called her a “skank” on the internet. Model Liskula Cohen says she has not ruled out suing the blogger. The anonymous remarks targeting Cohen’s hygiene and sexual habits were posted on Google’s Blogger.com. The blogger’s lawyer argued that although the comments may have been disgusting they were opinions and protected as free speech. Read more here
Israelis have reacted furiously to an allegation in a Swedish newspaper that its soldiers have killed Palestinians in order to harvest their organs. Aftonbladet, Sweden’s largest-circulation daily newspaper, carried the headline: “Our sons are plundered for their organs”. Government officials and commentators in Israel described the report as anti-Semitic and libellous. Read more here
Science writer Simon Singh is set go to an oral hearing at the Court of Appeal later this year seeking permission to challenge an earlier decision by the court not to allow an appeal over a libel action, according to legal sources. This latest application will mean a new hearing by the Court of Appeal on October 14 over a piece published in the Guardian this April that was challenged by The British Chiropractic Association.
