Government Minister Mervyn Silva coordinated a protest against the Sirasa television station in Colombo, Sri Lanka on 11 August. The station has been known to frequently concentrate on the minister’s attacks on the media and many feel that it is for this reason that the Minister is demanding an outright ban on the station. The protest, which involved about 100 residents of the minister’s constituency of Kelaniya, was given extensive coverage by all state media in a wave of support for the minister in his criticism of the station’s reports.
